As you are aware National Grid is planning to construct a new gas pipeline from Harefield to Southall and an Environmental Statement has been submitted to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for approval.

During the preparation of the Environmental Statement an Environmental Impact Assessment was carried out. As part of this process we consulted a number of organisations including Environment Agency, Countryside Agency, English Nature, English Heritage, London Borough of Ealing, London Borough of Hillingdon and London Wildlife Trust.

The Environmental Statement is now subject to further consultation and public examination before DTI consent can be granted for the pipeline route and permission for its construction can be obtained.

As part of this consultation public exhibitions are taking place on Tuesday 11th July, 2pm to 8pm, at Uxbridge Golf Course, The Drive, Harefield Place, Uxbridge and on Monday 17th July, 2pm to 8pm, at Hayes Community Campus, Coldharbour Lane, Hayes.

The full Environmental Statement will be on display and the project team will be on hand to discuss its content and to answer questions on the construction process.

The pipeline is essential to meet the significant increase in gas demand in the west London area. Subject to approval, tunnel construction will begin in April 2007, with the majority of pipeline construction activity between April 2008 and October 2008.

Please let me know whether you are able to attend an exhibition by either returning the enclosed form in the stamped addressed envelope or by calling the dedicated project information line on 0800 731 1231.
